Andre’ Julius Jones

June 23, 1959 – November 2, 2019

” A Life Remembered “

I heard the voice of Jesus say “Come Unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest”. Matthew 11:28

Lay down thy weary one, lay down, thy head upon my breast.

Today, may the work Brother Andre has done speak for him.

Andre Jones was born to the late Staff Sargent John L. and Eartha Jones on June 23, 1959 in Lompoc, CA. On November 2st, 2019 after a Jong illness, Andre heard and responded to the voice of God and left us to go from labor to his reward.

Andre accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. During his early years, he attended and served as musician and member of the church choir at the First Presbyterian Church in Selma, Al.

The Military family traveled to many interesting places inspiring Andre and his sister, Paula to develop a special bond and a passion for travel. He especially enjoyed living in Puerto Rico, California and Massachusetts. Andre enjoyed spending time with his sister swimming, collecting travel keepsakes and journaling about their travel across the globe. The family later moved to Selma, AL where he completed high school and then went on to receive his Bachelors degree in Computer Science Technology in 1980 from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL. He started his career as a Computer Science Professional with the Conte/ Corp. in Sterling, Virginia in 1981. Andre became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Theta Rho Lambda Chapter, Arlington, VA in 1980 where he served as an officer.

Andre was a self-taught musician where he excelled as a gifted pianist and Alto Saxophonist. He performed in the school band as well his church but mostly played for the listening pleasure of the family and his joy of the instruments. As a child, Andre loved animals and had a special bond with the family dog, “Rusty”. As a young boy, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and loved the many adventures the organization provided.

Andre was preceded in death by his parents, the late Staff Stg. John L & Eartha Jones. Fond memories of Andre will delight the vision of his loved ones. He leaves to mourn his loving sister; Paula Jones Dawson and Brother-in-law; Judge Herman C. Dawson; Two Nephews; Herman Dawson Jr, and Marquis Dawson; one niece; Airielle T. Dawson all of Mitchellville, MD; an Uncle; David Hickman(Calif), an Aunt; Evelyn Merrit {Selma, AL) Cousins; Thelma Louise Biggs & Shirley Jones Joyner (Pittsburgh, PA) and a host of cousins and special friends.
